Where Will I Meet My Lovers Now?

As I'm sure you have already heard, some grocery stores in Israel are making separate entrances for women and men, in an effort to prevent situations where opposite genders might unintentionally touch each other.

I don't know what you are thinking, but me, I'm really worried that this hashakafa may spill over into our American communities.

And then what will I do? How will I carry on my romantic trysts? Think about it.  Oy Vay.

Gone will be the days of  "accidental" brushing of the hands as we both reach for the same carton of juice. No more electric, passionate glances over the tomatoes or shared laughs in the dairy department. No more furtive caresses in the checkout line or stolen kisses by the frozen vegetables. Alas, the days of quickies with total strangers in the employee break room are coming to an end, I fear.

Gosh,  I hope my husband doesn't read this post. He'll never let me go shopping again, Im Yirtzeh Hashem, Kein Yechi Ratzon, Ad Meah V'esrim.

Oh, I am a Jewish man. Shopping in a Goyishe groceries won't help either. Indeed you can't trust me. All time I go around with only one thought in my mind. I spend days shopping with the sole intention of fornicating. My sins are too numbered to count all of them. Last week I spent an hour in a frozen veggie refrigerator waiting for that special Jewish lady who might be opening the glass door. I crawled under this carton with "Beer Mayim" soda to seek for a lucky occasion. Needless to say I frequented the break room. Alas, I haven't met anyone. Any advices ? :)

I think that's your problem, too much Stop-n-Shop, not enough Pashkez. You gotta start shopping at one of these stores the size of an elevator and only one last bottle of CY milk...

Thanks for the idea, OSM. I think I'll buy this last bottle of CY milk, and resell it for a quick passionate glance ( and some profit of course :). Keeping CY is so important beShomayim !

My kallah teacher taught us that affairs with gentiles are a no-no, but maybe your rav allows it, to each her own.

I always consult my own shulchan aruch, written by me, before I make any important decisions. It seems to works better anyway.

Separate entrance

It's only the entrance that's separate. Once you're inside, it's clear sailing. BHB.

This is the part that makes no sense to me. How do separate entrances help the "problems" noted in the article? Unless the separate entrances lead to a separated store with a mechitzah? I don't get it.

But people should shop in goyishe supermarkets as soon as possible anyway, much less expensive...

I recall reading an article in the Jewish Observer, years ago, about some new ultra-frum communities, and the article praised some of these communities for having grocery stores with separate hours for men and women.

As whatsizname said, there is nothing new under the sun.

*dropped chin to the floor*

Here, some dish mikvaot have male/female hours, but I just ignore them. If it's empty & I have a few items, I just go in.

But we do have other w/ no hours. Never met a guy in either one.

sounds exciting ;)

And again, the Orthodox world moves one step closer to extremism. Perhaps these people would feel more comfortable in Tehran or Kabul? Their obsession with outfrumming one another is really obscene.

The store must have really good sales and doesn't want people of opposite sex to stomp each other to death in doorways.
Remember Black Friday at WAlmart?
Lawyers might thrive in such environment, but it's better to keep your husband safe at home.

I thought you said that you are a passionate shopper, so I was trying to get to the real cause of this passion, which would be either bargain or looking for prosecution opportunities (at least here on Bandar blog http://24816.livejournal.com/2302.html).

They're going to do food sex segregation, as well. Any potential sexual imagery in the shopping experience will be eradicated. For instance, the men's shopping section will carry cucumbers, bananas, baguettes, zucchini and anything else that reminds us of men. The women's section will have eggs, melons, milk, ripe peaches. It's best that when people shop they be thinking only of their own sex and not that dangerous, titillating other sex.

Really it's okay if women buy bananas, the real problem is for men to buy peaches. That is THE LAW.

State your source, please. Without a source, I'm dismissing you and anything you say.

A personal story: My ex-boyfriend was caught fondling ripe papaya one day at Shoprite. I confronted him and he refused to seek counseling. That was the end of that relationship. The next boyfriend spent a little too much time examining the unripe bananas. Obviously a problem of a different sort.

At this point, I just do the shopping myself. Men are impossibly flawed.
