Personal In-Home Mashgiach- the Answer to All Our Problems.

Dear Chareidi Rabbonim,

I wanted to tell you how much I approve of your recent Modest Hotels campaign. Hotels under your authorization, from what I gather, will have to hide their televisions and internet modems. Only married persons will have access to the internet and if someone claims that they are allowed to watch television and his "looks prove this," a rabbi will be consulted for a special dispensation. There are other rules, but I think this is a great start.

However, this is only a first step. I am sure, Honorable Rabbonim, that you are aware that tragically,  some frum people watch televisions not only in hotels, but also IN THEIR HOMES. Some frum people even have pre-marital or extra-marital internet access, challilah. People, women mostly (of course), even talk loshon horah on the phone, in their homes, their bayis neeman b'yisroel. I won't go on, but you can surely imagine the terrible aveiros people do in the privacy of their own homes.

These horrible situations are surely responsible for all the tzaros of klal yisroel and more efforts are surely needed to rectify the problem. I suggest that " The Committee for the Character of the Jewish People" send out individual rabbonim and rebbetzins to provide hashgacha on our homes. Here are some services that these personal-care rabbonim could provide for klal yisroel:

* Listening to phone conversations to make sure no loshon hora or nivul peh is being spoken.

* Removing inappropriate magazines which may have pictures of females or articles written from an anti-Torah perspective (even worse) directly from the mailbox so these impurities do not even enter our homes.

*Updating us on the most effective chinuch strategies to use with our precious kinderlach.

* Accompanying the Eishes Chayil of the household on her shopping trips to assure the kashrus of the products she buys AND the conversations she has.

* Accompanying the Baal Habayis to his nightly shiur and mincha/maariv, to ensure that he is not really going to a Biker- Babe Bar instead.

* Alerting the household when a chillul shabbos is about to occur, such as when a child wishes to blow bubbles or play with Legos.

* Monitoring bedroom activities for compliance with the shulchan aruch's directives.

* Cleaning out closets of any clothing which may be too tight, too loose, too colorful or not colorful enough for a bas yisroel and ben torah.

* Assuring that all nightgowns and tichels are worn at all times and cover the targeted areas fully, according to Rabbi Falk's guidance.

*Checking to make sure no secular conversations or, challilah, kefirah is heard. Kefir is okay, but only if it is cholov yisroel.

Anyway, I think that an in-home personal mashgiach would do wonders for our community and would surely bring Moshiach b'meheira b'yomeinu.  Or at least Michael Jackson.

What's up with the Legos? I got a bunch for Rivka specifically so that she could have Shabbos toys, and just about every home I go to that has kids hauls out the Legos after lunch.

Rabbi Boteach has a lot of interesting things to say, but while he started out as a Chabad shaliach, I'm not sure he really represents Chabad these days.

I was checking out a hotel once in the Catskills (for work) and they had some sculptures in the lobby-- they were COVERED with what looked like drapes from the windows. I thought that was hilarious. I think people should just walk around blindfolded, or at least wear blinders, what do you do about being on 47th street in Manhattan? There's so much erva on display!

The problem with walking around blindfolded, I think, is that you might bump into a member of the opposite sex. And we all know where that kind of behavior leads.

Not everyone can control their teenagers, especially outside of the house. When my boys were younger if I had money to stay in hotels, I could imagine the fights we would have over all their trimmings! It would amount to torture not vacation!
The list of modesty conscious hotels makes parents’ lives more bearable and just gives them OPTIONS to live according to their preferences. But to amuse your audience, you try to portrait them as secret services – what could you possible know about such things? Even justice Clarence Thomas thinks that educational institutions have right to control kids. The same goes to parents. I bet you control your kids with iron grip and cannot even imagine what others are going through.

Justice Clarence Thomas is a bit crazy, he would fit right in with the chareidim.

It is like secret service, if people can't control themselves, why should they be religious in the first place and if they can control themselves, why do they need all these extra rules? Can you imagine, a person wants to watch TV in his hotel and they will see if he "looks like" the kind of person who watches TV and if so, they will consult a special rabbi to give permission. WTF.

Could the rabbaim and rebbitzin's listening in on conversations also enforce the rule about kavod habrios in order to eliminate the typical racial bashing that goes on in all to many frum homes? Very disturbing when you are going for a Shabbos meal and all of a sudden you think, "Hey, did I stumble into a Klan rally?" (from glowing_flower who still doesn't remember her log-in)

I don't mind having someone follow me all the time. They can do my shopping for me, never mind watch what i buy (they can also pay for it too as kosher brands are too expensive for me). They can then cook the food (making sure it deffinately is kosher) do homework with my kids (so they will make sure they are learning the hebrew/kodesh subjects too) and do my cleaning, laundry and ironing (that way they can make sure there are no untznioot clothes around). They can also sleep in the shed to make sure no un-kosher animals venture in the garden ie cats. I think it's perfect. What number do i call to get hold of a home mashgiach???

onion didn't you say you were going to make a post soon about what exactly it is that you believe about all matters related to the metaphysical and theological.

As I understand you believe in God but not Torah MiSinai, but you didn't elaborate beyond that.

If you don't believe in Orthodox Judaism then why still be a part of Chabad? Don't you think you and your children
would be happier in a reform or conservative shul?

Based on present stats (http://www.threejews.net/2008/09/will-your-grandchildren-be-reform.html) it seems Orthodox aren't doing much to stem the decay of Jewish numbers. So over all it seems Judaism and Jews are doomed to eventual extinction. What are your thoughts on that?

Rent a office accross the street from the hotel, install a wide range wireless that would cover the hotel and charge some money. Your business is guaranteed.

In a second thought, you may secretly share profits with the hotel and have them finance the operation.
